RIP Tommy Makem

Tommy Makem brought so much to the music world. Even if he'd done nothing but written the classic "Four Green Fields", he'd go down in the annals of the greatest songwriters of all time. He did so much more. With the Clancy Brothers in the sixties, as a solo artist, and especially for me, as a part of Makem and Clancy (with Liam Clancy), Tommy brought music and showmanship and entertainment to the world. One of the stories he'd tell before he and Liam sang "Red is the Rose" to the tune of the Scottish song "Loch Lommond", told of the Irish inventing whisky, giving it to the Scots who watered it down. The Irish invented the bagpipes, gave them to the Scotts...and they haven't gotten the joke yet.
And, I shouldn't be shocked, but I am, that the Associated Press wrote that "Four Green Fields" is "about a woman whose sons died trying to prevent strangers from taking her fields."
The person who wrote that did no research, editor did no fact checking, and they're both idiots.
Hope you didn't read that, Tommy.
